Show - 85 35 - A fe\V' felV' years later Hr. Uynn Hynn sold this house to Hr. l-l. l-I. H. Sanders of San Francisco, California. It l-laS l-TaS the first home in Crescent. The house is still standing and it is now used for an apartment building, housing two separate families. OLD SCHOOL HOUSE After Crescent "'as ~las organized it lolaS l<laS decided the site where the present school nOl-T nOli stands l'las l·las nearer the center of the tOlm so a school was built there, and N. A. Nelson. He had a hog ranch a the north school and property l-laS sold to n. and a dairy farm, and some prize winning holstein COlV'S. The place was later taken over by Olie Dastrup who had cows and sheep. It was later sold to Jex, then Robertson and Jackson and is nOl·1 olmed by Don Steadman, a sheepman. He has remodeled and made a very lovely modern home of it. The old school house was one of the first buildings built in Crescent. The school house lias l-TaS built in 1894. Mr. Marchant was the first teacher. NEloT NEH SCHOOL HOUSE l~. l-lilson Our present school house was erected in 1930. At that time, W. W. l.alson was president of the school board and it was through him we got our nice new building. This building has a very nice arrangement. It has a good big gymnasium with a balcony and stage where the children have lots of fun playing ball and other games. It has four class rooms and a principal's office and two lavatories on the main floor. The basement has four lavatories. It has a nice kitchen and a main hall. building is landscaped beautifully with lawn and shrubs. Our BRICK YARD The brick yard was first started and owned by J. P. Jensen. The soil east of the brick yard is a clay and Goes not need anything added for making brick. The brick was first made in a pug mill and molds and dries in the sun. The first brick yard was where Archie Jensen lives now. Later, the J. R. Jensen brick yard campany l.,as lvas started lolhere l<lhere the Jensen Brick Company is now. It had the latest equipment being run by a threshing machine steam engine. They made ..vTire lire cut and press brick. brick . The machinery ",as ~las changed to the present stationery modern motor. After the brick were made they are covered lV'ith \V'ith gunny sack and dried in the sun for three days before they are put in a kiln. A 12 hole kiln holds 250,000 bricks and takes forty tons of coal to burn it. They are baked tlvO hours. After they are baked about seven days. The kiln is fired every tliTO the kiln is sealed and let cool for a ,-leek. week. The brick are then ready to be hauled avlay away and used for building ne\v nel-1 homes. AMUSEHENT IN CRESCENT Amusement in Crescent is very different from the olden days. No\v Now lole we can jump in our car and go to the movies or Salt Lake City. Years ago the most recreation they had ,·l·l as in connection ,-lith lolith the church. The women, in their homes, lolere many plays presented. There ,.,ere lolere H. LA. would have quilting bees. There ,<lere parties and old time dances. They also had their Old Folks Day every year, ,·1 hich ,vas "lhich l-laS a big event. This custom is still in our wards today. People also visited their neighbors a lot more than they do now. |
