Show -39 It was moved by Mr. Mickelsen and seconded by Mr. Burgon 11 that the President and Clerk be a~horized to borrow extra mon~y necessary to pay current expenses until the tax money comes in. : Borrow money Motion carried. Bldg. Supt. Beckstead and Mr. Jeffcott, Janitor of Highland Boy, were authorized to investigate the cause of stoker troubles at Union, and if possible remedy the condition. Union . stoker II Mr. Paul Paulsen, contractor on the new Bingham High, was I I oalled before the Board with reference to the hiring of men I within the District. Mr. Paulsen was informed that local men I felt they were discriminated against as to wages, etc. Mr. Oon- : Paulsen stated that the reason for discharging local men was tracto J that they were not giving satisfaction; that wages were on a hire "I sliding scale, and if men did the work they got top price; that the reason for manual labor men from Salt Lake receiving local ,1 men 50¢ per day more was to take care of transportation. The Bingha justice of this practice was questioned by the Board. Mr. . High Paulsen was again reminded of using local men where they did satisfactory work. . 1 ~r. J. M. Boyden, chairman of the Clean School Campaign I Oommittee, read a report on pOints upon whichschools were judged during the past year, as well as stating reasons for three schools of the Distriot not receiving awards; after Clean I which the committee recommended that the Board supply schools SCh001J Comm. with money enough to purchase materials for one flower bOX, one hanging basket, and prints for each room and office of the Dist rict, at a cost of approximately $2.40 each, the schools !~~or to make them up. Thet committee were informed that. the matter would be given very careful consideration, but that the budget would not allow; the purchasing of materials for flower boxes this year. . ti A committee consisting of M. S. Larson and Geo. J. Merrill., representing the Bluffdale Water Works, met with the Board wi th referenoe to the supplying of a higher pressure on water there, in order that an ample supply might reach the school building. They stated that they felt the main trouble comes between the main lin e and school building, the pipe being oO:;t..,iBluffroded; that the water went through a pressure pump, holding dale a pressure at from 35 to 60 pounds. After some discussion, Water Bldg. Supt. Beckstead was authorized to assist in raising the Situalow pressure to 45, that a pressure gauge be secured in order tion to test pressure on main line below the hill, and at sohool house in order to see if pipes are corroded. Pres. Wilson reported that he had met with the committee at Orescent with reference to the purchasing of more land for playground there; that it was fcu.nd that three acres would be suffiCient; that he, together with the committee, had met with Mr. Jaynes and that he was willing to sell this amount of land Ii : to the Board.
