Show - 84 Crescent is located on State Street between Sandy and. Draper. Its boundary on the east is the Hasatch Moumains, and its boundary on ' the ~vest is the Jordan River. In first settler was a man by the name of Bell, who came here in the early 1850' s. Then Crescent Has 1850's. \Vas kno,'lIl known as Dry Creek. He built a log house, which Has \Vas used as an Inn for travelers. (This is the old Hynn home). After a fe~v fe,v years he sold his property to Benjamin B. Neft Neff (who with his parents were Utah Pioneers of 1847). Soon afterwards aftenvards Hilo Andrus, and other settlers took up land joining these two men. At first the early settlers of Crescent belonged to Draper Ward, \-1ard, but in 1890 the first presiding Elder, Soren Jensen, was appointed to hold meetings in ,vhat ~vas known as Dry Creek or Pleasant View, under the direction of Bishop Isaac M. N. Stewart of Draper liard. Hard. Soon Sunday School sessions started to commence at the home of John Newman Eddins. A brick building Has constructed in 1890. Crescent Hard ';-las '-las organized on Harch 23, 1896, but until this time Soren Jensen acted in the capacity of Presiding Elder. The name Crescent Has was selected by Brother Nels A. Nelson. The first Bishop of Crescent Hard ,vas ';vas James P. Jensen, and he acted until his follo~"ed by lolilliam lVilliam Fairbourn who died August 4, death on Hay 7, 1913. At this time the "Tard ';'l ard had 293 members, including 70 children. A modern brick meeting house ';'Tas t'Tas erected oTected in Crescent in 1900. The older strucstrt,lC,,,ard erected a neH meetture ,'Tas ';'Tas then used as a school house. In 1927-28 the .;vard ing house at a cost of $45,000. The former building had been destroyed by fire. Until 1900 Crescent belonged to Salt Lake Stake, then it became a part of Jordan Stake. In 1927 it .;t"as ..as transferred to the East Jordan Stake. Hhen East Jordan Stake ';vas tvas divided, it became Ht. Jordan Stake. The following men have presided as Bishop in the Crescent Hard: James P. Jensen, H. R. Fairbourn, Arthur C. Horris, Harris, Edward Ed,yard Fairbourn, Rulon Fairbourn, Homer H. W. Jaynes and Alma Fairbourn. 'vnam VlYNN HOUSE AND BARN Hr. and Mrs. Hynn had a house that they used for a tavern for the travelers. Hhen iit t got dark and impossible to get to Bingham, the travelers vlOuld stay there and eat and sleep. Hr. and Hrs. Hynn had a room in this house for them to stay. The barn outside tvas \Vas used to l<eep keep their horses and belongings. The mode of travel in those early days was by covered wagons. Part of this house was used as a store in which travelers could buy groceries and candy. |
