Show \\ " UTAH STATE HIS,TORICAL SOC IETY 603 EAST SOUTH TEMPLE, SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH 84102 '''~ . January 27, 1971 Elder Mark E. Petersen Church of Jesus Christ of Letter-day Saints 47 E. South Temple Salt Lake City, Utah 84111 Dear Elder Petersen: With the cooperation of the Governor1s Historic ~nd Cultural Sites Review Cornmittee, an official Utah Historic Site Harker has been designed. The enclosed picture will give you an idea of its appearance. (One minor correction should be noted: the i~ o. 1 at the bottom has been changed to t-l-l, meaning i1ational Register Site i'lumber One, to be used in correlating the marking program with brochures to be given to tourists and travelers visiting Utah's historic sitel. ; '· (The traveler who sees a marker--i'J -l, [l-2, etc.--can turn to his brochure for additional data.) The hard aluminum alloy plaque wi 11 be about 15" x 19". The darker portions are a dark bronze, the lighter ones gold, which make a lovely marker. Through an electrostatic process, the lettering and design are etched into the metal. Hence, it is strongly resistant to scratches and normal public abuse short of direct, vicious vandalism. It appears completely impervious to weathering. As no funds have been allowed in our preservation budget for "markers," we are appealing to counties, communities, groups and individuals to purchase and install these plaques. The cost is $105.00 and includes the plaque mounted on a post ready for installation. It is suggested that a hole be dug into which concrete is poured, then. the stand inserted into the concrete until the IIguide line" is level with the surface of the ground, a simple and uniform way to place all the markers. 'We shall be happy to assist in this activity. For your site, we are suggesting the following historical data: . BEEHIVE HOUSE ---~. Built in 1854 of adobe brick . Architect: Truman O.
