Gas lighted chandeliers replaced. steam heat was added, and. the old pine noon were covered. with hardwood floors. The woodwork was changed to look like walnut • . It pre- viously had been grained to look like oak. In the dinning rOOM, the sixteen foot ceilings were dropped and. the doors widened and heightened. The small paned windows were Sliding doors replaced colonial hinge doors. changed(~to large paned windows. The green shutters on the front of the house were relllOved. In 193.5, the Utah Pioneer Trails and Landwarks Asso. felt that ',not only the Beehive House, but also the Lion House and Brigham Young's office were of sufficient historical iJlportanee ·to have a urker placed in front of each building. On June 9, 193.5, George Albert SlIdth, who was a meaber of the Council of the Twelve, and president of the Utah Pioneer Trails and Landwarks Asso, gave the word to unveil the three markers. Plaque nUJllber .50 was placed on the Beehive House. 2 3 To carpet the larger rooms and hall way of the Beehive House, reproductions were made of one hundred year old carpet patterns. The smalleX' rooJd. are also one hundred year old reproductions of Brussels, four-ply ingrain or woven rag rugs. There are no orginal carpets in the Baehi ve House now. Draperies in the upstairs hall were reproduced by dopying the original f abric in weaving, color, texture, and pattern. Some roolllS have Nottinghaa lace curtains which are reproductions of the early Nottingham curtains which hung on t he windows during the period of 18.54-1877. Some of the curtains are Brussea lace and Battenburg, or Swiss embroidered net, but most of the early curtains were Nottingham lace. A few are over one hundred years old.
