The following request for a Park Scholar- ship in the amount of $300. 00 was approved on motion of Regent Bowen seconded by Regent Bamberger: PARK SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED JAS. R. BARTON Jas. R. Barton, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering for the year 1952-3 for study towards Ph. D. The following contract in addition to those listed in Appendix V, excluding item #11, were approved on motion of Regent Evans seconded by Regent Bowen: CONTRACTS APPROVED _ Extension of lease on Building 504 (Water Laboratory) United States Geological Survey. Gifts as listed in Appendix Two were accepted with appreciation on motion of Regent Evans seconded by Regent Bowen. GIFTS ACCEPTED A brief discussion followed on the matter concerning faculty participation in political activ- ities as outlined in the Faculty Council minutes of June 2. 1952, (copy filed) after which Regent Evans moved that the matter be referred to the Faculty Committee of the Board for study in connection with any prior action that had been taken by the Board. Motion was seconded by Regent Bamberger FACULTY PAR TICIPATIOI IN POLITICAL ACTIVITIES and carried. The President reported on a letter re- ceived from Dr. G. Oscar Russell concerning some phonetics laboratory equipment which he had presented to the University in 1945. (see Board minutes August 3, 1945 and April 12, 1946) Dr. Russell now requests the return of the material by Redman Van and Storage Company or the Mayflower Company (his choice) and that the University i.--.:-:;)per to pack and ship the equipment ,ington, D.C.
