Show $30000 TO BE TURNED OVER TO MR. SILL FOR PURCHASE OF BUILDING MATERIALS for the purchase of critical materials needed for construction of the building Regent Adam S, Bennion moved approval of the request which was seconded by Regent Bowen and carried. It was reported that plans have been made for ground- breaking ceremonies for 10:00 AOMO Wednesday, October 17, 1951, to which the Regent-s have been invited. GROUND = BREAK =ING CEREMONIES A question was raised as to clearance of the project FOR HOME ECONawith the State Building Board, inasmuch as the building is beLIVING CENTER ing constructed by voluntary subscriptions of money, materials SET FOR OCT" l7 and labor" CONSTRUCTION APPROVED PROVIDED CLEARANCE IS OBTAINED FROM STATE Regent Culp thereupon recommended that Chairman O"Connor obtain the proper clearance from the State for con‘ struction of the building and that Mr; Sill be authorized to proceed with the project° Regent Adam Sc Bennion moved that the construction of the building go forward, provided clearance is obtained by the Chairman" ' Motion was seconded by Regent Bowen and carried. ‘ Attention was called to the assignment of the honorary HONORARY DEGREES COMMIT TEE NOTIFIED OF ASSIGNMENT degrees committee which is to report to the Board at the regular monthly meeting in December, As in former years, the Regents asked that the Faculty be invited to send in names of candidates, with biographical sketches, for consideration by the committee, ' Regent Culp, Chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, reported for his Committee, as follows: BUILDING GROUNDS COMMITTEE RE PORT UNION BUILDING He called attention to a miniature model of the new building which was on display in theI Board Room. Regent Culp and President Olpin discussed the project and explained in some detail the plans from sketches furnished by the architect" The money for construction of the building is to be supplied from the annual building fee collected from each under-graduate student $18, 00 from students who attend three quarters during the regu- lar school year and $2" 00 from summer school students. The Building Committee recommended to the Board approval. of the project, and a general discussion followed, after which Regent Bowen moved that the Board of Regents recommend to the State Building Board that the building as designed by the architect be approved and the Building Board be asked to instruct the architect to proceed with plans and specifications so that bids can be called for" The motion |
