McCurdy, Jr. , President of the American Alumni Council, for tlae fine services rendered by Mr. Douglas 0. Wood'ruff while on the Council's official board in which he served as Director of Offices. ' Having noticed an announcement which appeared recent- ly in the local newspapers that afternoon classes in skiing would be conducted beginning with the Winter Quarter, 1952, Regent Bamberger raised a question on the University's responsibility with respect to exercising proper supervision and the patrolling of the ski lanes used by the students. He urged extreme caution be exercised for the safety of the students and called attention to the recent fatal accident of a local skier(member of Olyimpic team) wherein it appeared that proper patrolling of skiing areas had not been accomplished. The Board convened in Executive Session to consider the Summer School budget for 1952 in the amount of $22, 000, which had been held over for special consideration at this meeting (see minutes November 19 1951). Attention was called to item two on the following list, viz. , E. Allen Bateman, the present State Superintendent Of Public Instruction, ‘ and about whose salary there is a controversy in official circles at the present time, the Finance Commision opposing the increase recommended by the State Board of education.
