Show 119 campus could influence companies doing complementary and supplementary work to come to the University to do research work" The Chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, Regent Culp, reported a willingness to invite the Kennecott Company to erect and equip the building on the campus and to use it for twenty-five years, at the end of which time the building and equipment would belong to the University, but the company would have an option to extend the use period for another fifteen years under a rental agreement at prevailing rates. ACCEPTANCE OF REVISED PROPOSAL Regent Holbrook moved that the Building and Grounds Committee and the Executive Committee recommend to the Board the acceptance of the foregoing proposal, with the understanding that a satisfactory contract be drawn up and approved within a reasonable time, and further, that the two chairmen negotiate with Kennecott Company the terms of the contract, prepare a resolution setting forth the principal terms of an agreement which might meet with the approval of both parties, and submit this resolution to the Board at its next meeting, The motion was seconded by Regent McShane and carried. ' Regent Culp, Chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, recommended that approximately two acres of ground adjacent to the road which enters the campus at First South and Wolcott Streets but south of Fort Douglas Boulevard and west of the Department of Interior property, be set aside for this building. The motion was seconded and carried. GROUND TO BE SET ASIDE FOR CONSTRUCTING LABORATORY "The President discussed the construction on the campus of a nuclear reactor, which might cost about $50, 000. He stated that he thought funds remaining\in the $200, 000 Kenne- cott Grant of some years ago could be used for this purpose and that the company may be interested in giving an additiona1 $50, 000 to construct a permanent building in which to PRESIDENT TO INVESTIGATE house this equipment and in which research work in the analysis of minerals could be conducted. The uranium for the reactor would have to be obtained from the Atomic Energy Commission. The members were interested in the project and approve of the President investigating this matter further.
