Show J ("I '3) The monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Hotel El Escalante, at Cedar City, Utah, September 5, 1951. SUMMER COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES REPORTED ‘ Chairman William J. O‘Connor presided over the meeting. , President Olpin reported that commencement exercises were held at the Park Building Plaza, University Campus, August 31, 1951 at 7:00 P,M., with 350 students graduating. Three hundred and sixty five degrees, certificates and diplomas were awarded. The President commented on the very stimulating and thought promoting address delivered to the graduates, by Baker Brownell, Professor of Philosophy, Northwestern University. He stated that copies of the address would be mailed to the members of the board. Dr. Brownell was a visiting professor at the University of Utah during the summer quarter. REPORT ON MEETING WITH It was reported that the Executive Committee met with Governor J, Bracken Lee, August 28, 1951, at 2:00 P.M. to present the survey report on the University, which had been com- GOVERNOR LEE piled by the President's staff. .Chairman.O'Connor said he felt that the Governor was quite satisfied with the report submitted and that any publicity given it should come from the Governor's office and not from the University. He stated that the Salt Lake Telegram carried a small article on the report, quOting the Governor as saying that it was not exactly what he wanted, but it had brought about a better understanding and much good would come of it. PRESIDENT'S ANNUAL REPORT President Olpin next distributed copies of his annual report of the UniversityVS activities for the year 1950-51, to the Board members. The Board expressed, appreciation for the excellent manner in which the report had been prepared and authorized its circulation to senior high school students throughout the state, in addition to the usual mailing list. This approval was given on motion of Regent Adam S. Bennion, seconded by Regent McShane.
