Motion was seconded by Regent Bowen and Carried. MINUTES APRIL 4 AND APRIL 14 APPROVED On motion of Regent McShane duly seconded and carried, the minutes of the Executive Commit- tee meeting of April 4 and the regular monthly meeting of April 14 were approved. Regent Culp, acting chairman, requested the President to present his report. PRESIDENT'S RE PORT President Olpin reported on the formal the Hatch Room on Saturday, April 19, of Opening 1952, which was attended by a large number of FORMAL OPENING OF HATCH ROOM visitors. A great deal of public interest is being shown in the museum which is attracting many weekly visitors. The President also reported the gener- ous contributions by the Hatch family and friends. An invitation to visit the museum followingthe meeting was extended to the Regents by President Olpin. The President reported on the meetings of the National Association of State Universities and the American Council on Education held last month in Minneapolis and Chicago, respectively. One of the features of these meetings was the discussion of the opportunity universities now have in the field of television. Two hundred forty-two television stations have been reserved for education and one year has been allowed the educational institutions to take up these stations. If no action is taken by- that time, the stations will become available to com- mercial companies. The President stated that the Federal Radio Commission has liberalized the regulations governing non-commercial educational pro- grams that such programs as Firestone Hour, Telephone Hour, the Standard Hour, etc. are acceptable over the educational channels so long as recognition is given the sponsors without promotional or advertising build-ups. Most of these sponsors are pleased to get this new audience, so valuable programs can be secured at very little cost to the Institution. A meeting is being held in Salt Lake City at the State Capitol this week, at which various educational institutions will be represented, to decide what will |
