Regent Evans moved approval secOnded by Regent Culp, of a preliminary investigation of this matter. Motion carried. Regent Culp, Chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee reported that following a meeting with Mr. Louis Buchman, Manager. of the Western Division of the Kennecott Copper Company, it was understood that the building which the Copper Company will construct on the campus under conditions that have been discussed previously (meetings of December 10, 1951 and January 14, 1952) would be changed to provide for the lease of the building by the Kennecott Company under free tenancy for a period of 35 years, with the option to rent for fifteen years at the expiration of this time at a fee of $500. 00 per AGREEMENT WITH KE NNECOTT COPPER COMPANY APPROVED month. It was reported, however, that a ten-year option to rent might be acceptable. Maintenance services for operating the building would be provided by the Kennecott Company from the time of erection. The recommendation of the Building Committee favored the 35 year lease with a 10-year rental option. The recommendation was approved on motion of Regent Adam S. Bennion seconded by Regent Eccles. The contract between the Kennecott Copper Company and the University covering the use of the temporary building as previously discussed in the December and January meetings, was presented by the President, and ap- - proved on motion of Regent Culp seconded by Regent Bowen. Pursuant to action of the Board at the last meet- CONTRACT FOR TEMPORARY BUILDING FOR KE NNECOT T COMPANY APPROVED ing that voting would be conducted at this meeting for another candidate for an honorary degree to be awarded in June 1952, the Board proceeded to ballot. Regent McShane moved that two ballots, if necessary, be taken and that in case a nominee does not qualify, that only the one degree voted at the last meeting be awarded.
