Show The President stated that a meeting of Presidents, athletic directors, and faculty repre- sentatives of members of the Rocky Mountain Conference has been scheduled for May 24 in Denver, Colorado. Final action will be taken at the Conference meeting on the A. C. E. committee's recommendations. Regent Culp stated that he had been quite concerned about the A. C. E. athletic code, but now felt that it would be worked out satisfactorily and Ecommended the President on his active participation in its program. Regent Bowen moved that authority be given to the President to Work out the best program for a control of athletics in this con- ference, in which the President has the confidence FOR MAL NOTICE OF DR. WAHLQUIS T'S AC CE P TANCE OF POSITION IN CALIFOR NIA of this Board. Regent McShane seconded the motion which carried. While in the East the President had his first report that Dr. John T. Wahlquist, Dean of the College of Education, had applied for and been appointed President of San Jose State College of California. Dr. Wahlquist has advised the President that he is ready to resign either on June 30 or July 31, to provide time for seeking and naming a successor. A further report will be made at the next meeting of the Board. The President reported that Dr. Leo Samuels, Head of the Department DR . LEO SAMUE LS GRANTED LEAVE DURING SUMMER of Biochemistry, has been invited by Ciba Foundation of London to participate in a scientific conference in London July 7-10. Following this conference he has been asked to give lectures at the University of London, University of Zurich, and to present a paper at the International Biochemical Congress in Paris the latter part of July. On his return he plans to take part in the Laurentian Hormones Conference at Quebec. Dr. John Z. Bowers, Dean of the College of Medicine, recommends Dr. Samuel's leave of absence cover- ing the period June 21 to September 15, 1952. Attention was called to the fact that Dr. Samuels will not have any teaching assignments during the summer. All expenses for the trip will be met by Ciba Foundation. |
