Kimball of the College of Law has been requested to act as Chairman of the State Bar Commission Com- DEAN KIMBALL mittee to study judicial business of the State and recommend APPOINTED legislation. He has accepted the assignment, and although it requires considerable time, he has assured the President it CHAIRMAN OF STATE BAR will not interfere with his campus duties. COMMISSION _ COMMITTEE It was reported that the State Finance Commisssion had requested the number of regular employees at the Uni- EMPLOYEE versity paid from State appropriated funds for the period July DATA SUB- 1, 1951 to November 1, 1951. Pursuant thereto, schedules MITTED TO had been prepared in the same manner as the one covering the STATE FINANCE period January 1, 1945 to and including June 30, 1951, which COMMISSION were sbmitted to the COmmission under date of October 18, 1951. This more recent request is a continuation of that report. Copies of the report covering the entire period will be submitted to the Regents. at an early date° The President reported that Associate Professor Calvin CALVIN W. W. Taylor had prepared a report titled "The Role of Inter- views in the 1951 Medical Student Selection Program at the Uni- TAYLOR versity of Utah" and has received commendation for it from COM'MENDED the Association of American Medical Colleges. This has re- , FOR RESEARCH sulted in Dr. Taylor's being requested to accept an assignment for next year with the National Research Council. (see requests for leaves of absence this meeting) Following conclusion of the President‘s report, Chair- man O'Connor called fo committee reports. Regent Holbrook, vice-chairman of the Executive Committee reported on a meeting held by that Committee on Friday, April 4, 1952, concerning a course of action to be taken by the administration in submitting the University's request for its portion of the State Reserve Building Fund to provide for the Uni- versity's building program. The meeting had been called fol- lowing an announcement by the State Board of Examiners that a‘transfer of 2. 2 million dollars was being made from the Sales Tax Surplus to the Reserve Building Fund. The President was authorized to write to the State Board of Examiners requesting the allocation of the $800, 000. to the University Reserve Build- ing Fund and advising the State Board of Examiners that a report on the University‘s building needs will be made after further study by the, Regents. The President was also authorized to explore the possibility of purchasing 40 acres of land acquired by Salt Lake City from the Fort Douglas reservation under the Surplus Property Act. STUDY |
