Queen" which was produced in Denver recently. Ap- pearing in the Salt Lake Tribune Public Forum (issue of February 9) is an article written by a visitor from New York City praising this excellent entertainment. DISC USSION OF COLLEGE FORUM The President called attention to the publication of the Forum, issue of February 6, 1952, carrying information relating to the newly announced organiza- tion called the American Association of University Students for Academic Freedom. (Copy filed herewith) The President felt that the Regents should know how the "Forum" came into existence, and stated that the "Forum" is the speaking organ for a discussion group on literary, social and other ideas, which meets periodically on the campus and is known as The College Forum. It was explained that the daily Chronicle would not publish the long articles written by students on problems of world and political affairs, etc. , hence this publication was created. It has not been published under the supervision of the ASUU Publication Council nor does it bear the masthead of the University. The College Forum has been recognized by the Student Affairs Committee and the Deans Council as an official campus organization. Its journal, the "Forum", is apparently being financed by members of the College Forum, Prior to this year the Executive Council of ASUU purchased one thousand copies of each issue for $13. 00 for distribution to the University Student body. The ASUU discontinued its sup- port this year because of a decrease in its budget. Many students contend that the Forum should not come under the supervision of the ASUU Publications Council as it is independently financed. However, since the College Forum has been recognized by the University, the question has been raised as to how a recognized organization can publish a journal not associated with the University. |
