Show Baldwin- D 1193 A Yes. We run into the slush ice that had formed below the jam; that was a difficult task, of getting out of it, because it is slush ice came under the jam and came right up under the flat bottom boat; we were stuck there pretty tight, had to take a line there to pull out of the slush. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Since you have been there in 1921 how many times have you observed the river being frozen over? A Just that one time, in January, and then it jammed something similar down by the well the winter of 1928. Q Does that ice jam hard enough no it forms a kind of dam and backs the water up behind it? A Yes; shore ice breaks loose and floats down, comes to a narrow place and clogs, consequently keeps filling in above it probably half a mile or more. Q Then for how long a time does that ice remain there? A This last time it remained there, I would say, four or five weeks. MR. BLACKMAR; That is all, Mr. Baldwin. 3165 |
