ParlririJ(P Bishop Gregory had a fine tenor voice and was chorister in the Farming· ton Ward from 1918 until 1931, and again for four year s about 1938. He was one of the Seven Presidents of the 56th Quorum of Seventy from 1918 to 1929. and was ordained Bishop of the Farmington Ward January 25. 193 1. serving until 1936. He was a member of the South Davis Stake Presidency from 1941 to 1945. He worked at the Miller Floral Company for 38 years and was president of the company when he passed away in 1948. Bishop John R. Walsh JohnR. Walsh was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, June 19.1883, to J ohn Walsh and Rosetta Long Walsh, and became a resident of Farmington when his family moved here in 1892. John's father was a member of the ill-fated Martin Handcart Company which arrived in Salt Lake City in 1856. In 1909 John R. Walsh married Isabel Harmer, who was born in Springfield. Utah in 1891. They were blessed with six fine children - two boys and four girls. Upon his graduation from Brigham Young University in 1909 he spent three years in the Swiss-German Mission. He became Bishop of the Farmington Ward in 1936 and served in that position until 1943. In 1944 he was sustained as a High Councilman in the South Davis Stake and later in thp Davis Stake. Bishop Walsh was a scoutmaster for ten years. a schoolteacher from 1917 to 1952. was a city councilman for a two·year term and also a city clerk at one time. Bishop Gordon Heber Van Fleet Gordon H. Van Fleet wa s born in Farmington . Utah. July 3 1. 1912. LO Heber John Van Fleet (also born in Farmington. January 11. 1879) and \ 1ary Ellen Blamires of Kaysville, Utah. He was baptized at the age of eigh t a nd ordained successively through all of the levels of the priesthood. On April 28, 1943, he was ordained a High Pries t and set apart to be the Bishop of the Farmington Ward. In 1947 he became the second counselor in t he High Priest's Quorum. presiding over the South Davis Stake. Gordon received his schooling at Davis High School. Utah Agricultural College at Logan and the University of Utah at Salt Lake City . He is a co n· tractor and builder following the same line of work as hi s father and twO brothers. Frank and Reed. Hess was born at Farmington, Utah, January 7. 19 \ fl. to Mil lon M. Hess. also born at Farmington. December 23. 1883. and Margaret Jane Steed Hess, born at Draper. Utah. April 20. 1884. Milton' s church activities are briefly as follows : He served as a seco nd counselor of the Y.M.M.l.A. of the Farmington Ward and as president of the fifth quorum of Elders for approximately two years. until March 1942 . He served as L.D.S. Chaplain in the United States Navy. and was rel casecl to inactive duty with the rank of Lieutenant Commander . He served as a member of the High Council of the Davis Stake from November 1945 until October 1947. when he was called to be the Bishop of the Farmington Ward.
