A On the Betsy Ann we had our machinery and possibly about six hundred or eight hundred pounds of coal. Q What else? A About three men. Q How much did your machinery weigh? A Oh, I imagine twenty- five hundred pounds. Q Twenty- five hundred pounds of machinery and six hun-dred pounds of coal and then passengers, you say? A Yes sir. Q The Marguerite was there, too, was it? A Yes sir. Q Did you have the scows there, too? A We had taken the scows apart by removing the decking, giving us two separate scows; we had lightened them up with all of the heavy bracing we thought they could spare, to make them lighter; they were heavier built than the Betsy Ann, so we lightened them all we possibly could; we loaded provisions enough to get up to Wimmer's ranch and the bedding, tents and such stuff, and the remainder of our provisions and stuff we cached in a hut we built at the junction.
