Show 3975 Kane- D 1995 sampling, and these samples were saved and taken out by these men; Mr. Holdridge, general manager of the B. & M. Railroad at that time; I have forgotten the man's name who was at that time mayor of Omaha, an Irishman, I have forgotten his name. Q Were these men at Hite when you arrived there? A Yes. Q Did they have a boat? A No, they came over horseback, I believe, or in a wagon, at least, from Greenriver, the same way we came over; but they went on down past Crescent creek to Hite, trailed down there. Q That would bring them into Hite through what wash or creek? A I don't remember; they passed over many washes; they were going south; all these washes came in from the west on that side of the river; either had to go down or else cross them. Q Between Hite and Lees Ferry did you encounter any rapids or rough water, that you recall? A Quite a number; there were names for a good many of them on the upper side of Glen canyon, along this mining country where there were miners off and on, they had named them; we didn't know the names of them -- some we didn't know at all, but we know certain ones, Tickaboo rapid, Trachyte |
