Show 3984 Kane- D 2004 Q Did you have any persons in your party who had been through that section of the Green river before? A I believe not. Q Do you recall whether or not Mr. McDonald had? A I am quite sure he had not -- yes, he was with the Brown party; McDonald was with the Brown- Stanton party through Glen canyon. Q That is the first Stanton expedition? A Yes. Q Between Green river and the mouth of the San Rafael did the riffles in there give you any difficulty? A No; they were pretty swift; there was one about three or four or five miles below the Greenriver bridge that was quite swift, zig- zag rapid; if it had been straight away it would have been no trouble, we could have run it easy enough with our boats, but it went around; we touched bottom on that, but didn't stop, I believe. There was another one between there and the San Rafael, I don't remember how close to the San Rafael it was, quite swift water for some distance; one of the boats run it; our boat went through it all right by touching on the bottom; it was a strong, swift current, and carried us along, just bumping and grinding.
