Show 3943 Edwards- RD 1963 A Back about half a mile, I should say; the river makes a big turn around; on a high point between the two bends of the river, so they could see up or down. Q Does this appear to be an ancient fort? A Oh, yes, it was an ancient building; we saw four of them, I think, at different points on the river. Q On the Green? A On the Green and the Colorado. Q There are no Indians living there now, are there? A No; these were the old Aztec people, cliff dwellers. Q What did you see as to the remains of irrigating land? A They had farmed a small flat, probably a couple hundred acres in this flat on the bottom, on the river bottoms; they had evidently farmed that; we could trace out the line of their ditches and their laterals where they irrigated the land. Q Was there any sign of how they got there? A No, no sign of how they got there or where they went. Q Was there any trail to the river at that point? A Not that I know of. Q I mean that you saw. A No sir. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q Where did the irrigated stretch you were able to see |
