Show 3983 Kane- D 2003 A We left Green River in the early of July, and landed at Lees Ferry I believe on the 26th of August; I am not sure about that; that may not be right. Q In calculating the amount of supplies which you would take, how much time did you figure? A We didn't know, because we expected to do a lot of prospecting in Glen canyon, and locate ground; that was one object of this party; a prospecting party entirely. Q Maybe we can work it out this way; for how many weeks did you have provisions when you left Green River, if you recall? A Well, we had plenty for a month, at least, for eight men. Q Just tell me the progress of that expedition down the Green river, say, to the mouth of the Green river. A Well, we were bothered a great deal with shallow water; the only thing we were bothered with was shallow water. Q In what way did that bother your A Well, it delayed us a lot, and made lots of hard work, shoving the boats off sandbars and shoving them. back, and putting them into other channels; the channels, many of them, some places they were scattered out; there was a good many channels; we would have to pick them. we didn't generally pick them until we stuck on the bars; then we would look for deeper water. |
