THE SPECIAL MASTER: I would like to ask him one question WILLIAM HIRAM EDWARDS was thereupon recalled by the Special Master, and further testified as follows: FURTHER EXAMINATION BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Mr. Edwards, on any of the trips that you made on these rivers, I refer to the Green and the Colorado, down to Lees Ferry, did you yourself or any other of the persons in the boats in which you traveled use a map or surveys or charts of any kind? A I think that Mr. Stanton had the diary, or whatever information Mr. Powell; had; I think he had the topographic maps of the Powell expedition. Q Did the men in your boats use them? A No, I think Mr. Stanton did all that, gave us orders from those maps, whatever he wanted done. Q On the Best expedition was any map or survey used? A I think not. |
