Show 4041 Zahn- D 2061 A Sometimes on foot, sometimes on horseback, just depends on what conditions were; many places there are no trails. Q What do you mean? A No trails next to the river; in fact, the river in some spots was canyoned up, you can't get near it with horses. Q That part of the country where you were living, or where your placer mines were, were there any other people in there outside of the placer miners? A There were several camps opened up just above us, what I call Moonlight, where Moonlight enters into the San Juan river, the Cottonwoods, there has been a camp there two or three times. Q I am not talking about the placer miners, I am talking about persons engaged in agriculture, or any other business. A No agriculture down there, at all, except what the Indians had done at the Cottonwoods, just have a little corn and a few melons, is all. Q Coming back to the original question, were there of were there not any people living in there engaged in agriculture? A Not down in my vicinity. MR. BLACKMAR: That is all, Mr. Zahn. |
