BLACKMAR: Q About how many different years have you observed those sand waves? A So many times I couldn't just differentiate. Q Have you ever noticed the effect of the sediment in the river upon the fish in the stream? A In the year 1904 the river was nearly dry, and when the summer freshets came down from the side canyon, -- they had summer cloudbursts there -- it came down very thick with mud and sand and sediment, and that would choke the fish, they would come out on the shallow part of the river bed, and you could easy pick them up and throw them on high ground. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q You saw that? A I did that, picked the fish up myself. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What kind of fish were they? A I don't know; pretty bony fish; I didn't think they were fit to eat. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Have you had occasion to observe the effect of the different stages of water upon the sandbars? |
