Show 4113 Sawyer- C 2134 A No. Q Do you recall an incident, Mr. Sawyer, an importer giving his name as U. S. Steele, who represented himself as being in the employ of the U. S Geological Survey? THE SPECIAL MASTER: U. S. Steele? MR. FARNSWORTH: That shows what the subconscious mind sometimes does. Q Had hired a man at Greenriver and gone up to your camp at the junction -- had gone to your camp at the junction and procured the services of one of your launches and was taken up to Moab? A Yes, I recall that incident. Q You lost one of those launches? A No; he simply misrepresented himself and talked Mr. Hiser, who had chagge of the camp while I was gone, into send-ing him in one of our launches up to Moab. Q What I mean by lost, was, he got a launch out of the proper service for long enough for him to take that trip. A Yes sir; they delivered him to Moab. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Where did he turn up from? A I never knew. Q How did he get down to your camp? Was there any trail down to your camp? A He came down in a row boat. |
