Show 4090 Sawyer- D 2111 the wheel, the stern wheel, in the chuck of this drill engine, and we had a steam boat. Then we loaded on a little coal and came down with Mr. Wimmer; we had deposited, I think, three piles of coal along the bank at about the intervals that we thought we would be running short; and had stuck a pole at each pile of coal with a large flag on it, so we wouldn't run by it, so I think we had about six hundred pounds of coal left when we got to the junction. We loaded that, also, on the Betsy Ann, and that boat propelled itself up the river. We had taken the catamaran and lightened it in every possible way by taking off all the planking we possibly could, and the Marguerite pushed one of those small scows, and the two motor boats we had pushed the ther one, and we loaded what we could of the outfit and cached the rest at the junction, and proceeded up stream. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q How did you get this stuff down with Mr. Wimmer from Greenriver to the junction that you brought down to fit up your Betsy Ann? A We brought it down in Mr. Wimmer's supply boat, the Marguerite. Q The Marguerite had gone down originally -- A Yes, and then come back. |
