A I gathered up this paddle wheel and enough of fittings and short pieces of rods, gears, chains and so forth, what I thought would be possible to fit up the Betsy Ann, which was our light survey barge. And Mr. Wimmer hauled this stuff down to the junction. There we fitted up the Betsy Ann; we mounted the small horizontal boiler a little ahead of the middle of the Betsy Ann, and immediately behind that we connected it with the engine, the drill engine. The drill engine has a chuck which holds the drill rod, and when steam is turned into the engine it turns this chuck; this chuck is adjustable; you can adjust it any angle; so after mounting the drill engine and the paddle wheel we stuck the shaft that run the gearing that propelled |
