Show 4082 Sawyer- D 2103 the river, and they wished to find out if there was bed rock within workable distance that was suitable for foundations for the dam. Q Did you eventually locate bed rock? A No, we did not. Q How deep were the drilling operations conducted? A I think our deepest hole was one hundred and twenty- five feet. Q And at a depth of one hundred and twenty- five feet what did you find? A We found sand and an occasional boulder. These boulders were sometimes large enough to fool us for a short time, and we would seat the casing and put the diamond to work, but invariably they would break through into the sand again, proving it to be a boulder. ( Recess.) MR. BLACKMAR: In connection with Mr. Sawyer's testimony I desire to call attention to photograph 50 of Exhibit 11 C. THE SPECIAL MASTER: In connection with whose testimony? MR. BLACKMAR: Mr. Sawyer. THE SPECIAL MASTER: The present witness? MR. BLACKMAR: Yes. Q Mr. Sawyer, how many holes did you drill at that point? A I don't remember exactly; I think six or seven. |
