Q As I understand you, in answer to his Honor's ques-tions, you stated that at that point there were what you termed reefs that made it shallow at points? A Yes. Q What was the composition of those reefs, if you know? A Sand rock. Q The reefs ware rock in place, weren't they? A Yes. Q Part of the formation, the rock formation of the bed of the river at that place? A Yes. Q Nothing unstable or shifting about those rocks? A No. Q They were a part of the earth in place? A Yes. Q I believe you stated when you came there, because of your heavy load, and the hard work of rowing and handling the boat and striking these reefs, that you decided it would be simpler and easier to portage down there? A Yes sir. Q And you did portage for that distance? |
