Show 3965 Kane- D 1985 Q Go right ahead. A There was some placer mining being done up the river from Moab in the Lasal -- I forget the name of the other range of mountains. Q Blue A Blue mountains I expected to stop there and do some prospecting; in fact, that was one of the reasons I went down that way on the raft. We got down there, and found two or three men placer mining with rockers. We could see there was nothing in it, no money, wouldn't pay, so we kept going on. Instead of going out to the railroad then, we kept on going, thought we would go down at least as far as Moab, and get a boat there and go on down the canyon if we could, find out more about it down there. Q At what point did you get into the river with this raft? A At Grand Junction. Q At Grand Junction? A Yes, Colorado, then came right down through the canyon, through Grand canyon down the Grand river -- it is now called the Colorado -- the name has been changed; it was then the Grand. We stopped at Moab; couldn't get a boat there. The people told us there. MR. FARNSWORTH; Never mind what they told you. |
