Show 3957 Edwards- RC 1977 Q There there is a ladder that was put in -- there is a ladder there at the place where the canyon narrows, that there is no difficulty in going up and around on dry land there, isn't that true? A Didn't see it. Q You didn't see it? A No sir. FURTHER EXAMINATION BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q How about the portion of the river from Hite down to, we will say, the mouth of the San Juan river,-- can one walk along the bank all of that distance? A Quite a good bit of it you can. Q Could a horse go along there? A There is a trail from Hite to Good Hope bar; I don't know whether it goes any further or not. It would depend considerably on the stage of the water. Q Would it be possible to utilize the banks of the river from Cataract canyon down as a tow path? Could a horse tow a boat up and down there? A I doubt it. Q With reference to this Major Powell, as I understand, she was a boat thirty- five feet long, with two six- horsepower motors? |
