So it was generally left alone -limited discussion of refurbishing it. The main concern for these landscape architects was what to do with the big spruce trees out front. I think all of the groups removed at least one tree - over half removed all of them. They dealt with the outbuildings in a variety of ways - left them all here, removed most, screened them with vegetation, created a horse corral area as part of the museum etc. I think they had a copy of your site evaluation which seemed to influence how they looked at the buildings. But that's why I would like someone from the state at the table with us when we go over the site plan. There is going to be lots of discussion about what we can and can't do bury the utility lines, move/change the fences and trees etc. Maintenance of the station worries me most. Much of what the students proposed can probably be gained with some local sweat and labor, but supplies for the restoration are more problematic. We will look for Forest Service funds to help, but I suspect funds to make things happen quickly it will have to come from somewhere else. That was the whole point of getting the historical society incorporated and involved at the site - so they could get funds from outside sources. How do the plans affect the immediate site of the ranger station. Do they keep the historical appearance of the buildings and setting? What about removal of non-contributing buildings? Does the F .S. have funding for the repair and maintenance of the ranger station, or will money have to be found elsewhere? As I think I mentioned, the Tabiona Historical Society and Duchesne Ranger District received a $5000 grant to develop a site plan for the Stockmore Ranger |
