Departmant of the Interior National Park Service National Register pf Historic Places Continuation Sheet Section No. __7__ Page __1__ Stockffiore Ranger Station, Tabiona, Duchesne County, UT Narrative Description The Stockmore Ranger Station is located approximately 40 miles northwest of Duchesne, Utah, with access from State Highway 35/U.S.40. The buildings are situated in an open area at the foothills of the Uinta Mountains near what was once the town of Stockmore. The area surrounding the station is covered with sagebrush and grass. Thick stands of spruce and aspen trees grow near the dwelling and other buildings. The buildings that comprise the ranger station were completed at various times from the c.l914to 1985. ~. ~ -\0 (loll ~ 0 . ~ . ~~ .~ The ranger station, built in c.1914, is a one·story crossfWing, wood·frame building with drop siding and woo~gles in the o .gables. The st:rlJcture rests on a fieldstone and masonry foundation and has a wood shingle~vered, gable rex{. Main entrance ~ is through the porch on the south side of the building, which enters into the living room (formerly the kitchen). A bedroom and ..()V ~ a small dining room are located behind the living room at the rear (north) of the bujlding and a bathroom (formerly a pantry) at ,,\~ the east end. The cross wing is attached to the west end of this portion of the house. Separate doorways lead to the kitchen ~~ (formerly a bedroom) at the rear of the cross wing where the rear entryway is located, and to the office at the front. There are brick chimneys is located at the center of both wings, to which stoves were at one time attached. Windows consist offour and six..light wooden casements, and four·over·four and six.aver-six, double-hung, wooden sashes with simple 1"x 4" wood framing on the exterior.
