SUBJECT: Acquisition As you know, the Indian Service is in the process of dividing the Indian lands between the full bloods and the mixed bloods. The Stockmore Administrative Site, comprising ~ 80 acres, is located in the area being distributed to the mixed bloods. This site was withdrawn from Indian grazing lands subject to all prior claims. The Indian Service is very anxious to complete the division of these lands, but cannot do so until a decision has been reached as to the legal status of this Administrative Site. There appears to be several alternatives which are as follows: 1. The Administrative Site Withdrawal be revoked in full and the mixed bloods paid the appraised value of the entire 80 acres. 2. The mixed bloods be approached with the proposition that the Forest Service will revoke withdrawal on the portion of the site not under fence, provided the mixed bloods will agree to convey title to the Forest Service to the area under fence. The portion under fence amounts to approximately 36 acres. 3. The Forest Service request that the present stand in full force and effect. ~dthdrawal We will appreciate having this case reviewed by legal counsel, and advise us of the proper course to pursue. Tracing of the area in question is attached. We are also attaching our case folder in the event it will be of some value to you in analyzing the case.
