Show 5 Special Uses At present, there are telephone communications to ' Stockmore, and Moonlake Electric provides power service. The Big Springs Canal is an easement on the property passing through the SW..s\olt.., sec. 20. The length and width of the canal is unknown. The telephone line and PQwerline connections would have to be extended from a p~esent location at the Stockmore Administrative Site to serve the lab and office building. r-Hnerals There is an outstandi'ng mineral right on the entire 80 acres that was originally withdrawn from the Indian Reservation and later purchased from Hr. Pike. This mineral right is held in L;e . name of the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uinta and Ouray Indian Reservation, Utah, under the act of August 27, 1954. 'l'here is no mining . activity presently in this vicinity although the potential for oil and gas development is possible. Protection of the improv~ ments should be possible even if the area is developed for oil and gas in the future. Transportation Public access into the existing Stockmore Site is very limited by the crowded work center conditions. Eventually, it is proposed to use the lab building as an office and contact center for Forest visitors after Bureau work is completed. The new office building will be located to meet the future Forest visitor contact needs in a spot where reasonable access and parking facilities can be provided. The new building will also not interfere with any anticipated improvements of State Highway 35. Natural Beauty The lab building and six-car garage will not be readily visible rrom either approach direction from State Highway 35. It will be seen by a traveler on the North Fork Duchesne River Road and eventually will serve as an information station for Forest visitors. The existing facilities at Stockmore are located in heavy vegetation and are not readily visible by the public using State Route 35, even though they are immediately adjacent to this road. The new improvements will be situated in a sagebrush type and will eventually require some planting and landscape work to develop an acceptable public contact station. The proposed facilities can be painted |
