Show 2 - Regional Forester - 3/14/60 2. The site is intensively used each field season. One fire guard is stationed here. In addition, it is used as a field headquarters for the District Ranger, the Assistant Ranger, and district work crews. It is occupied approximately six months each year. 3. It would be very difficult to move this station to a site on National Forest land. To do so would require reconstructing all buildngs. Also, such a move would place it off the main road which would be a decided disadvantage, especially during the early and late parts of the season. An adequate water supply is questionable. It could be done, but would be very impractical to do so. The area actually needed is the area encompassed by the fence as shown on the plat which was furnished you some time ago. The description of the area needed by legal subdivision lines is as follows: Sec. 19, T. 1 N., R. 8 W., USM SE~SE~SE~; E~E~SW~SE~SE~; S~NE~SE~SE~; E~SE~~SE~SE~. 18.75 acres ~ Sec. 20, T. 1 N., R. 8 W., USM SW~SW~SW~; W~SE~SW~SW~; W~NE~SW~SW~; E~NE~~SW~SW~; SW~E~NW~SW~SW~; S~NW~SW~SW~. 26.87~cres v / Total acreage - r ' 45.62~ (See attached map) We believe this site will be needed for National Forest administrative purposes for many" many years. On January 20, 1960, we mailed a copy of the Chief's letter to Mr. Zollar of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Ft. Duchesne, Utah. This procedure was suggested by you in your letter of January 15. We did not reply to your letter of 1/15 since it stated, IIIf this approach is not satisfactory, we shall appreciate your comments." Since we were in agreement, we thought no reply was required. We are also attach~ng a letter received from the Indian Service. Since this is an inter-departmental affair, we assume that you will want to make the reply. We are informing Mr. Zollar that his letter has been transmitted to you for action. We believe that every effort should be made to hold this administrative site. If we can help in any way, please let us know. Attachments |
