Show ts> - American Rivers Conservation Council, Howard Brown. We should be Involved with this Group foritrategy planning. I am asking that they mail you: "How to Save Your River - a Citizens Guide to Water Projects". Excellent information and advice. You should note that I have attempted to systematically lay the groundwork of information on CUP issues to all governmental and environmental groups having concerns with water project developments . While projects are similar - in defense of costs, in justification for developments, in downplaying importance of loss of streams wildlife and recreation - each individual dam project impacts ^w& unique and irreplaceable resources in a State. Of all dam projects underway today, the CUP and its issues is the least known about in Washington as well as in the nation. This should tell us something - about where we are and where we have to go! As we proceed, we must keep a network of information and advice going. An up-to-date tie-in of CRCUP Utah efforts with Washington based activities and timing is essential. It enables us to direct our-CRCUP efforts effectively. It provides us advisory and moral support. Moral support is significant. It is only when you leave the development atmosphere and its power in Utah and into a conservation atmosphere in Wisconsin, that the need for this becomes so apparent. (Wisconsin went through the rape and burning of its magnificent forests 100 years ago, lost major wetlands and wildlife habitat, until it turned the corner on conservation.) SUGGESTIONS FOR ACTION 1. Right now budget hearings are taking place in Washington. Hearings on appropriations for public works take place April 2-12. I think it is important that Utah people raise funds to send someone to testify on (1) costs of CUP and (2) alternative State water management options. All other States in the country having dam developments, send opposition representation. I think it is essential that the real issues of CUP be heard this )aw, •nswwwwEse&ai ARK YOUR CALENDARS 1 1979 DAM FIGHTERS CONFERENCE, PUBLIC TESTIMONY ON WATER PROJECT APPROPRIATIONS AND ARCC ANNUAL MEETING SCHEDULED The hearing schedule for public works appropriations for fiscal 1980 has been set with public testimony slated for April 2-12th.
