For two days I couldn't get out of either my front or back doors and the driveway was snowed in up above 4 feet. Kids who clear your driveways and sidewalks here are making a fortune: $17 after the big storm. Mark, who stayed in Jackson this year, making up his mind what to do in his career, came home for a month at Christmas. Bill was able to come home from the hospital for a 72 hour leave over Christmas. When I drove Mark back to Iowa for his connection with his ride back to Jackson, I hit the worst blizzard we had. Cars off the road. Cars spinning in circles in front of you. Dreadful. So, I have stayed put here in Madison now for two weeks. Bill, as you may surmise, is still in the hospital in Madison. He has made enormous progress but still has progress to make. His left leg and left arm have returned to use very well. The left hand is still relatively useless - but fingers are the last to recover. The problem has been with the right leg. He developed spasms in this leg several months ago and cannot count on the leg holding him. So, there has had to be experimentation v/ith the proper level of drug to control the spasms which doesn't render all other muscles ineffective. Bill is now walking with crutches in addition to a v/alker. Tells me he is improving. There have been two recent staffings tors and therapists to evaluate progress and his ome. This seems to be imminent in a number of weeks. with doc return h Howevever, I don't want him home here until he has had full benefit he is ba here, or v/ith thi all fact of the Physical Therapy at the Madison hospital. When ck in Manitowoc he will have to go to some hospital at Green Bay or Neenah, for out patient therapy, and s weather, this might compromise his progress. So, ors are being taken into account. Ourparish hangs in there. Last fall we had a retired Bishop (Montana) come from southern Wisconsin. This month we are having a priest from Sheboygan come up Saturday evening so we don't have a Sunday Service. This has worked satisfactory - except for the time this priest skidded into the ditch coming up I I have been heavily involved in theCUP work -even though I am in Wisconsin. I have provided much |
