Show 7541 5519 THE SPECIAL MASTER: In connection with the request of counsel for the government yesterday to take the deposition of Colonel Dent in rebuttal of certain testimony given by Mr. Wolverton -- MR. BLACKMAR: May I interrupt just a minute, your Honor? THE SPECIAL MASTER: Yes. MR. BLACKMAR: I am also confronted with these army engineers' reports. THE SPECIAL MASTER: I will take that up later. I have asked the reporter to transoribe a portion of the testimony given by Mr Wolverton referred to. Mr. Woulverton was asked by Mr. Farnsworth: " Why couldn't you build larger scowe, that would take, say, one hundred tons, and by operating larger boats compete with the land haul?" He answered: " We couldn't do that for the reason that the river in its natural condition wouldn't allow the handling of a one hundred ton scow." Of course, there is no objection to that answer either side. If anything, it is in favor of the government's contention rather than otherwise. He then proceeded to say: " Here and there a rock in the riffles that would need to be removed." |
