Show 7411 5390 Wolverton- D BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q Is the difficulty, as you view it, in operating a large scow safely and conveniently, say, with a fifty- ten load or somewhat smaller loads, one of draft only, or isn't there some difficulty at those riffles particularly, perhaps at other places, in so far as width of water that is free from rocks is concerned? THE SPECIAL MASTER: Just read that question. I don't know that I understand it. ( Question read.) A No. The difficulties, as I have found it, is due entirely to here and there rocks in the channel. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q Do you exclude those riffles - to operate those big boats don't you think you would have to have work done at those riffles? A I do. Q Why? A Because at the present time, in handling a load up the river you have to dodge those rocks that lay in the riffle. Q Would that be practicable with a big scow of the character we have been talking about? A We might get through them by great care. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What portion of the Green river are you talking about |
