Show 7402 Dern- D 5381 10th of April, and got to Lees Ferry; got back about the 22nd, as I remember. Went to Moab first, and then from there down. MR. FARNSWORTH: I assume it may be stipulated Governor Dern would describe the boat in which he traveled substantially as Mr. Rust did? MR. BLACKMAR: Yes, that was Mr. Rust's canvas boat. May be you better ask him if Rust was in charge of the boat. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q Have you on any other occasion made any boat journey on the Colorado river? A Just before we went on this trip, and on the same trip way from Salt Lake City, I went to Moab to the Shafer No. 1 oil well on the bank of the Colorado river by boat. Q Did you make a round trip to the well and back to Moab? A Yes sir. Q On what boat did you ride? A Going down we went on the Moab Garage Company's large power boat, the boat on which they transported all the freight and other supplies to the well; had a party of thirty or forty people on that day on that boat, besides a lot of freight. We came back on a smaller and faster boat that same afternoon. Q I will ask you to state whether or not on that journey |
