Mrs. Solario, in looking back ov.er your years, over your years here what has been your greatest difficulty in your own life, what has been most difficult for you in an Anglo society? MS: Well, ah---to tell you the truth, I never did let anyone get me down. FO: Mmm-hmm. MS: I if they felt that I didn't belong or anything, they didn't tell me because, if they did, I tried to stand on my own feet, and I tell them, well it seems to me that I belong here. You know, I just didn't let them say, well you belong down south, because I said, this where I was before. FO: Mmm-hmm. MS: You know, so I really---after that, they just---nobody really bothered me. If they felt that way or tried to hurt me, or in any way, I certainly didn't look for it, or tried to let them do it as you know, in any way, and they didn't. FO: I see. MS: I felt like they just treat me the way I wanted be treated, and I didn't want to be treated any other way, so they tried |
