INTERVIEW: Francis Yanez Page 16 FY: he taught the kids, you know, the young boys---he taught them music, and I remember----that's when my brother learned how to play the guitar and the violin. And he had a group of boys playing the instruments and we'd sing, and the boys would play the organ, and then the sisters taught us how to sew. That's where we, you know, picked up a needle and-­well, we do it at home, not not done the fancy work that we done when they came back from Mexico. And so the sisters were here, and they taught us a lot. VM: How long were they here, now? FY: They must have been here about ten years. Ten or twelve years, they were here a long time. VM: All right, what about the fathers? Were they here that long? FY: No, the priests weren't here that long. They got, you know, priests they usually change them, you know, from one church to the other, you know, the same Catholic church, but they change them around. I think they got sent back to San Antonio, if I'm not mistaken. VM: Then who took up---over the mission after them. FY: And then after that, I'll never forget good Father Collins. He was just like an angel. And then when he came in, of course, times started to get better, you know. There was more money and ah---and there was more activities going on then. Then
