Show INTERVIEW: Francis Yanez Page 29 FY: the education comes in. This is where the University of Utah with this OEA and everything that's coming in now. This is where it's coming in good, you know, that'll make us---help us educate the kids, you know---and then, of course, we get books from the Mexican government, you know, and the Mexican Civic Center, to make these kids come in and enjoy themselves, and· want to be a Mexican. Now for instance, we have a teen-age group going on now---a teen-age campaign. The girl will be elected as queen by August the twenty-eighth, and she will be crowned on the sixteenth of September at the Terrace Ballroom, which will fall on the eighteenth, I think, of September. To make it easier for the people to attend the program of Mexican descent and white and what have you, see. And this is what---now we're getting the girls from New Mexico to participate in this program, and now they're understanding that they're as much Mexican as the other kids are---se .. VM: How about---how about the family life? The younger Mexicans and their family life of today as opposed to the family life of your day. FY: Well, one thing that the Mexican kids oppose to is our way of living. You know what I mean? They wanted to live with tho dnte, you know, with ...... with the time. VM: Yes. • .. |
