Show INTERVIEW: Francisco Solaria Page 18 FS: I see him coming through the front door, I run through the back, until he got tired. Then he, he let me alone. FO: How old were you when you quit school? FS: See, that would be 19---25. That'd be what, fifteen? FO: Fifteen. How many years of schooling did you have all together, Mr. Solaria? FS: Well, ah---to start with, when we was topping beets, we, I didn't started school until the first of the year, or sometimes, some schools, you know, like in Salt Lake they used to take me ah, as soon as I came to Salt Lake. And then in Delta, we didn't----I didn't start in school until after November. FO: Mmm-hmm. FS: It would be about December, and, and be out in March for going out to the farms to thin beets. And April would be the last month, probably of, about the middle of April, we'd get ready and go back to farms. I think I had about from 1920, six months, from January the first to, I think the, we had about six months out of the year. FO: Mnun-hmm. FS: Then from there we would work just three or four months. I hit----well, I went to the fifth grade . That's as far as I, I went, fifth grade. |
