Show INTERVIEW: Francisco Solaria Page 36 FS: you want to do something for yourself, but you're scared that'll----they'll turn you down because, the nationality that you are, and sometimes it holds you back from trying ----even from trying to do, to help yourself. That's the way and I think if with me---I've been trying to make something of myself. And so I could help my children be educated. And I'm glad they done their best to help theirself, and they've educated theirself, went to college and got the job what they have. Just like with this young boy, well, he's helping himself because, I can't help him very much. The only thing I can help him by is living here and feed him and boarding him. But ah, it's discrimination in the way, where you could have been advance better. * * ~ * * * ~ * * SIDE TWO * * * * * * FO: The second side. We were talking about discrimination. What about in the schools. Do you think that your students encountered discrimination there, Mr. Solaria? FS: Say, explain that again. FO: Ah----did you children get ah, as good an education ah, as other children in the community, or do you think the fact that they were children of Mexican parents ah---caused them problems? |
