INTERVIEW: Cordova Page 18 came back in the kitchen to talk to me and he called me Senora. And I says, 'Yes?' He says, 'I want tortilla, sabe, you sabe tortilla?' He would , you know, like this: 'You sabe tortilla?' he says. 'I like your country,' he says. I says, 'Well, I under-stand when you ask for tortilla, yes.' I says, 'When you like my country, what do you mean?' He says, 'Oh, south of the border.' I says, 'You are greatly mistaken, if you say England then you would be talking about my country.' They just have a way of making you feel that you are so low, you know. And they did me. Like I have always said, we are all God's children, we are each equal. We may not all have been born with the silver spoon in our mouth like some, but that doesn't make one any better than the other. This is what I have always felt. When they would come to me and start talking to me in a broken English figuring that was the only way that I knew how to understand them, I went through that. BM Did you and your husband get married by a, did you get married in a church? EC No, we were married by the county clerk, but we had our marriage blessed in the Catholic church. BM Were you raised LDS? EC Yes. BM And your husband was raised Catholic?
