Show INTERVIE~v: J os 1 M del JN: Yeah. VM: Where were they from do you know? JM: Some were from Old Mexico, Colorado, and New Mexico. VM: Were most of them from Old Mexico? JM: No most of them New Mexico and Colorado, the majority. VM: In 1920's you mean? JM: In 1927 or in there, most from there. Page 7 VM: What do you remember much about the Mexicans that would come in from Mexico? JM: Oh, quite a few, I guess, Torres, what his name1 the one who got the Charro1 came from Old Mexico, Gomez, Santos Cabrerra . (Charro Cafe) VM: When did they come in, did they come in earlier? JM: Earlier, maybe '23 or ' 25 or something like that, I don't know for sure, but before me. VM: What do you remember about the union 1 the union when it first started here on the railroad, what problems did they have? JM: Well, they have a union when nobody want a union. VM: Why? JM: They don't want to pay dues, so this fee when the union know everybody they wanna see us like it and pay the union and doesn't want nobody get fired. VM: When did the union first begin and become effective here on the line? JM: Oh, say 1940 or'45 all gotta be with the union or out you go. |
