Show Education - 189 Burke, P. Supt, Indian Industrial School. Albuquerque Letter to Agent, So. Ute Agency Indian Agent questioned regarding the willingness of the Vicavilla Apache Indians to send their children to Albuquerque school. These chiefs previously reluctant due to past illness and death of children at the School. Burke stated improved facilities at the school created satisfactory conditions. Children would be taught carpentry and harness making and then later employed by the government to build other Agency buildings. Nov. 9, 1888 Oberly, John D., Commissioner Telegraph to McCunniff, Agent, So. Ute Agency Commissioner is informed school is not in operation and wants reason why. 1889 School Statistics Accompanying Annual Report Southern Ute Boarding School Quarterly report includes information and statistics about the Southern Ute Board School. Attached is record of public property received, issued and remaining at the Southern Ute Agency Apr. 16, 1889 Oberly, John D., Commissioner Telegraph to McCunniff, Agent, So. Ute Agency Commissioner asks McCunniff what the attendance is at the school. Sept. 13, 1889 Morgan, T. J., Commissioner Letter to Indian Agents Mr. Frank D. Lewis, Special Agent of the Indian Bureau, is in charge of securing students for the Industrial and Training School in Grand Junction, Colorado. Agents are to cooperate with him. |
